Freighter Nikolay Bauman sank off Danuba delta, Black sea

General cargo vessel Nikolay Bauman sank in approximately position 45 13N 029 48E, some 7 nautical miles NE of Sulina port, Danube delta, at around 10:55 LT  Mar 6 13. Vessel loaded with 2,700 tons of gypsum was en route from Eregli Turkey to Kherson Ukraine, meaning vessel was to pass Danube delta heading north. AIS track shows, that vessel changed it’s course and headed for delta. Weather was favourable. Most probably, vessel suffered water ingress, caused by yet unknown reason, and tried to reach shallow waters, expecting assistance from nearby port. Vessel sank on 17 meters depth, 11 crew rescued.
