Boxship OOCL Belgium stuck in ice in Strait of Belle Isle, Canada

In the morning Feb 28 13 boxship OOCL Belgium requested icebreaker assistance from Canadian Coast Guard after vessel stuck in ice in Strait of Belle Isle en route from Montreal to UK. An icebreaker was dispatched to the distressed boxship, ETA morning Mar 1. According to Coast Guard, the Strait is covered with ice up to 70 centimeters thick, nothing unusual for this time of the year. One can’t but ask then, why the boxship without ice class sailed into the ice-covered waters. Maritime Bulletin
