5 crew died in accident on cruise ship during rescue drill, Canary Islands
During a rescue drill on the cruise liner THOMSON MAJESTY, five people died and further three were injured. The incident happened in the port of SANTA CRUZ DE LA PALMA, Canary Islands.
Due to a broken cable, a lifeboat fell approximately 20 meters down, landing upside down on the water. The five killed and three injured were all aboard this lifeboat, all crew members. Those killed are believed to be three Indonesians, a Filipino and a Ghanaian, Reuters reported. None of the 1,498 passengers on board at the time were involved in the accident.
