Third doublet attack in two months in Indian ocean

Two cargo vessels were attacked by armed pirates on Dec 9 13 in the same time and in the same area, in Gulf of Aden, according to IMB data. Unidentified tanker underway was attacked at 0330 UTC in position 12 50N 047 49E by 5 pirates in a skiff. Unidentified bulk carrier underway was attacked at 0348 UTC in position 12 52N 047 52E, some 3.5 nautical miles off the position of tanker attack, also by 5 pirates in a skiff. Both attacks were foiled by armed guards on board of each attacked vessel. According to IMB, a military helicopter came out from somewhere for assistance, and patrolled the area. According to other source, both attacks took place simultaneously at 0357 UTC.
In last two months it’s a third doublet of pirates attacks, all doublets taking place at roughly the same dates each month, in different areas.
Fishing vessel and VLCC Islands Splendor were attacked on Oct 11 and 14, both attacks thwarted off by armed guards, both attacks in the area off Mogadishu.
Unidentified tanker and tanker Torm Kansas were attacked on Nov 6 and 9, both attacks thwarted off by armed guards, both attacks in the area west of Seychelles.
Something strange is going on out there.
