Product tanker Torm Kansas was attacked by pirates further south in Indian ocean on Nov 9 13 in position 07 19S 048 37E, some 290 nautical miles almost due north of northern tip of Madagascar. According to Torm press-release, vessel was en route from Sikka, India, to Mossel Bay, SAR, with Indian crew on board. Pirates closed the tanker and opened fire, guards team on board returned fire, attack was thwarted. Pirates retreated, tanker resumed voyage, no injures reported.

Maritime Danmark reported, that Danish warship Esbern Snare detained suspects in Torm Kansas attack in the morning Nov 10, close to the area attack took place.

On Nov 6 in roughly the same area, some 135 nautical miles NW from the position where Torm Kansas was attacked, pirates, maybe the same group, attacked Chinese tanker.

It’s a fourth attack in a month, attacks taking place in two different areas, two attacks per area. Presumably there were two groups operating in those two areas, both groups were reportedly detained by Australian and Denmark Navies.
