f/v Western Venture on fire in Bering sea, communications lost

Fishing vessel Western Venture is on fire in Bering sea, some 69 miles west of Adak Island. The captain of the Western Venture reported a fire aboard the vessel in the morning Oct 20 13 via email. No further communication with the crew by the owner or the Coast Guard was possible. Coast Guard 17th District command center in Juneau received a personal locator beacon alert registered to a crewmember aboard the Kodiak-based Western Venture at about 9:05 a.m. Vessels in the area close to Western Venture position are directed to assist, the first to arrive was f/v Aleutian Beauty. No further information is available at the moment. The identity of the 59-foot vessel is not clear. It may be Western Venture IMO 9095008 (built 2006, flag USA), but this vessel is described by maritime-connector as the vessel belonging to Massachusetts-based company, with last known positions in the Atlantic recorded in 2010.

Fishing vessel Aleutian Beauty rescued 5 crew of fishing vessel Western Venture after it caught fire 69 miles west of Adak. Aleutian Beauty responded to Coast Guard emergency broadcast and picked up uninjured crew from a life raft.
