Luxury yacht Seafaris caught fire in Cow Bay, 50 nautical miles north of Cairns, Australian eastern coast, at about 0600 LT Oct 3 13. All those on board – 8 passengers and 8 crew had to leave the yacht in great hurry, as the Seafaris was engulfed in flames and sank literally in minutes. By 0730 people were picked up by a passing container ship which responded to distress call and coast guard directions. The container ship took the yacht’s passengers and crew to Cairns, where they were met by police and paramedics, writes Brisbane Times. The Seafaris was used for luxury charters for high end tourists along the Queensland coast. It is owned by the McCloy Group, which has refused to comment.
