CMA CGM container ship LILAC on fire in Cape Town
At 0416 LT Sep 28 13 NSRI Table Bay was alerted by reports from container vessel LILAC, anchored at mooring number 2, 1 nautical mile off-shore of the Port of Table Bay, with 21 crew onboard, reporting a fire in one of their holds, reported website Sea Rescue NSRI SA.
The ships Captain reported, via one of his officers, that his crew were fighting to contain the fire in Hold 2 and that at this stage he was not declaring an emergency.
It was decided to take vessel to Container Docks in the Port of Table Bay where Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services will board the ship to fight the blaze. Vessel was taken to Table Bay port and docked some hours later.
