Media report major fire on board of Maersk Kampala, Suez

No news on Maersk Kampala fire in the morning Sep 1, except a short story published by a Turkish news late at night Aug 31. According to Turkish edition, which is referring to Egypt military sources, there is a major fire on board Mearsk Kampala loaded with some 4,000 containers, many containers damaged or destroyed.Egypt engaged all available salvage and firefighting resources to fight the fire, the edition said.

According to last Maersk press-release dated Aug 30, fire on board of Maersk Kampala was still on. Tug boats with fire-fighting capability remained on the scene fighting the fire.

Maersk Line said on Aug 29 13 that the Maersk Kampala was fighting a fire in two containers within the foremost bays on deck. The vessel is fully maneuverable but drifting south of the Suez Canal. Vessel left Jeddah on Aug 27 according to AIS-Satellite, no AIS signal since morning Aug 28. Assumingly, AIS is off. If AIS is off because of technical failure, it means fire damaged the bridge.
