World's second-largest offshore wind farm opened
The official opening of British 500 megawatt Greater Gabbard wind farm - world's second-largest offshore wind farm took place on Wednesday. The official cutting of the ribbon on the wind farm was performed by Energy and Climate Change Minister Michael Fallon.
Greater Gabbard is located approximately 23 miles off the coast of Suffolk, England and is capable to provide the electricity for half a million of homes. The wind farm features 140 turbines, that were produced by Siemens. It is set to double in size as soon as the wind farm extension called Galloper is finished in 2017.
British government supposes that by the end of the decade the offshore wind is expected to generate electricity for 11 million homes.
