Maiden voyage of world’s largest boxship Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller started in Vostochniy, Russia
World’s largest boxship makes maiden China call
Shanghai: Ship spotters in Shanghai will have to trek out to the deepwater port of Yangshan, some 35km southeast of the city if they want to catch a glimpse of the historic maiden call of the world’s largest boxship, due to arrive at 21.00 hours this evening. The giant 18,000 teu Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller is on its maiden voyage and is sailing to Shanghai from Busan.
Well, SinoShip News made a mistake. Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller left Okpo, Daewoo Shipyard, for Vostochniy Port, Russia, Japan sea. Giant container ship called Vostochniy mainly for bunkering, but there were some cargo operations, too. Vessel was docked at Vostochniy Container Terminal VSK on July 6 13, and left Vostochniy on July 7, bound for Busan. Probably, Vostochniy calls will become regular, because bunker costs in Vostochniy or Vladivostok ports make them very attractive in the eyes of container ships operators. Evergreen already included Vostochniy in its transpacific schedules.
