MOL Comfort fore section sank

July 11, 2013 at 06:35 by Mikhail Voytenko in Accidents

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines issued urgent press-release informing that the fore section of MOL Comfort in position 19 56N 065 25E, at 19:00 UTC on July 10 13, after complete burn out.

Maritime Bulletin:

There is almost no doubt, that there were many containers in fore section of MOL Comfort, loaded with inflammable and explosive cargoes, or else the section wouldn’t get ablaze and completely burn out so soon, making all the firefighting attempts just futile. Oman probably, wouldn’t let the remnants of the section enter its’ waters, because who knows, how dangerous the wreck was. Remember MSC Flaminia – several months after fire and complete clean up in Germany, Romania held the vessel on the road for quite some time, fearing toxic pollution.

A sad story.
