LNG tanker JS Chukar ran aground in Kerch Strait

July 4, 2013 at 08:33 by Mikhail Voytenko in Accidents

LNG tanker JS Chukar a ran aground in Kerch Strait on July 2 13 en route from Istanbul to Kerch, reported local media kerch.fm and kerch.com.ua. Vessel was in ballast proceeding to Kerch for loading LNG shipment bound for Istanbul, calling Kerch on a regular basis. JS Chukar grounded in daytime and was refloated some 6 hours later with the help of tugs. Tanker anchored near the grounding site, reportedly for survey. As of 0100 UTC July 4 tanker was in the same position, anchored near rather heavily trafficked seaway of Kerch Strait, it may be assumed that something is wrong and vessel can’t be moved.  LNG tanker JS Chukar ran aground in Kerch Strait
