Bulk carrier Oriental Pioneer collided with bulk carrier Atlantic Hero in Singapore Strait
Korean bulk carrier Oriental Pioneer collided with Greek bulk carrier Atlantic Hero at around 05:30 LT July 2 13, some 6.6km south-west of Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. Prior to the collision, MPA's Port Operations Control Centre had provided information and issued warnings to the vessels when they were about 1.5 nautical miles (about 2.8km) apart. The ships were also in communication with each other. One of the Oriental Pioneer's bunker tanks was damaged and approximately 100 metric tonnes of fuel oil was spilled. Both vessel after collision were anchored at Eastern Bunkering Anchorage, at 13:00 UTC July 2 vessels were in the same position. A total of 10 patrol and anti-pollution craft have been deployed to clean up the spilled oil, reported MPA Singapore.
Atlantic Hero was en route from Zhanjiang, China, Oriental Pioneer was en route from Paranagua, Brazil.
