June 23, 2013 at 02:56 by Mikhail Voytenko in Accidents

An asphalt carrier Nisar R 3 with 816 tons of bitumen on board sank on June 22 13 some 1.4 miles off Port Sultan Qaboos, Muscat, Gulf of Oman. Captain of the vessel, of Pakistan nationality, reported dead. The rest of the crew, 9 Indians, reported to be rescued. Captain reported to Port Control water ingress and growing list, he said there were no pumps on board. When rescue boats arrived to the scene, vessel already sank. No other details available, including vessel’s particulars – no such vessel was found in known databases. Maybe it’s an old local tanker, maybe a converted dhow.   Asphalt carrier Nisar R 3 sank in Gulf of Oman
