Chinese bulk carrier Ming Yuan detained by Philippines Coast Guard for illegal anchorage

June 22, 2013 at 03:42 by Mikhail Voytenko in Accidents

Chinese bulk carrier Ming Yuan was detained by Philippines Coast Guard on June 21 13 when they found out that the vessel was staying at anchor near a marine sanctuary off Cebu island since May 19 13, without any plausible explanation and proper formalities. It was suspected that the vessel may be engaged in illegal extraction of the sand, but not traces of sand were found on board of the vessel. Master said he was expecting possible cargo shipment in one of the Philippines ports, but explanation wasn’t found to be convincing. Vessel was escorted to another anchorage outside marine sanctuary borders, and presently is considered to be in detention for investigation of the true purpose of its’ stay in Philippines waters.
