Nigerian Navy arrested Grimaldi’s ro-ro Eurocargo Salerno suspecting toxic wastes on board

Nigerian Navy made a statement reporting the detention of an Italian ro-ro vessel Eurocargo Salerno, suspecting the vessel to transport to Nigeria toxic wastes. Three crew members, including the captain had been detained by the Navy, noting that other crew members were under close watch at APM terminal, Tin-Can, Island, Lagos. Toxic wastes are presumably, used refrigerators, hidden in three trucks, which were loaded in Antwerpen, Belgium. Navy said it was tipped off by the National Environmental Standard and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA). Vessel was arrested immediately after entering Nigerian waters on June 19 13. Navy said the vessel would be handed over to Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for further investigation.
