Fire in engine room of ferry Nissos Mykonos, Greece

Ferry Nissos Mykonos reported fire in vessel’s funnel to the Greece MRCC in the afternoon June 14 13, en route from Evdilos, Ikaria island, to Karlovasi, Samos island, Aegean sea, with 173 passengers, 74 crew, 32 cars and 13 vehicles on board. Later master of the vessel specified that the fire, actually, was in engine room. Fire was extinguished by the crew, 5 passengers were evacuated by the Coast Guard and taken to hospital with smoke inhalation. At the time of the accident vessel was some 2 nautical miles off Karlovasi. According to reports, all passengers were transferred to the port by coastal ferry Panagia Theotokos (IMO 8745735). Nissos Mykonos arrived to Karlovasi later in the evening and was docked.
