Tanker Perla adrift off Somalia coast after fire, three crew seriously burned in fire
Chemical tanker Perla suffered fire off Somalia coast on June 7 13, three crew Filipino were burned in a fire, details of an accident unknown. Vessel disabled after the fire, salvage tug Melana 69 as of 00:25 June 11 was some 16 nm north of Perla in position 05 57N 056 03E, 400 nm south of Socotra, both vessels were drifting. Australian frigate HMAS Newcastle came to assist injured crewmen, first aid was provided by Newcastle’s medics delivered to tanker by a helicopter. Two crewmen with second degree burns were evacuated by helicopter to Newcastle, later they were taken to Spanish warship SPS Numancia and then evacuated to Port Victoria, Seyshelles.
