Freighter Pirireis sank after collision with boxship Consouth, 2 dead, 8 missing, Med
German boxship Consouth collided with Turkish general cargo vessel Pirireis at around 07:00 Apr 29 13 in Ionian sea some 5 miles off Greece Sapientza Island. Weather was good, details of the collision yet unknown. Turkish freighter sank, two crew members are reported dead, eight missing, seven rescued, all crew are reportedly Syrians. Pirireis was en route to Nikolayev, Ukraine, with cargo of fertilizers. No reports on damages to Consouth, 16 crew (including Russian, Polish and Filipino nationalities) is unhurt, vessel presumably stays seaworthy, capable of sailing under own power. S&R by Greek Coast Guard is underway.
