Tug Phyllis Dunlap disabled after fire, Hawaii

US Coast Guard received an emergency call from a tug Phyllis Dunlap was received at around 14:00 LT Dec 5, reporting fire in engine room, which disabled the vessel. Tug was towing barge Westward Trader and was some 69 miles northwest of Maui, Hawaii. “The captain activated the engine room's fixed fire suppression system, which is believed to have extinguished the fire, at 2:30 p.m.”, said USCG. Coast Guard Cutter Galveston Island was diverted to render assistance. After assessing the damages suffered crew was advised to stay on board. A tug Kokua arrived later in the evening and took Phyllis Dunlap on tow, ETA Honolulu afternoon Dec 7. Barge contacted Phyllis Dunlap after tug was disabled, with minor damage to both vessels.
