Vietnamese freighter Saigon Queen sank off Sri Lanka, 4 missing

Vietnamese general cargo vessel Saigon Queen sank in the afternoon Oct 30 off Sri Lanka, issuing emergency signal at around noon Oct 30. Vessel was en route from Myanmar to Tutticorin, India, lodaded with wood. Vessel encountered storm caused by cyclone Nilam, last known AIS signal dated 22:20 Oct 29 from position 07 58N 084 09E indicated Saigon Queen was proceeding at reduced speed of some 3 knots, apparently trying to hold on against waves. Vessel capsized due to cargo shift, and sank, S&R operation was conducted by joint efforts of Sri Lankan rescuers, US Navy, Indian MRCC and vessels in the vicinity. There were 22 crew on board of Saigon Queen, 3 were rescued by bulk carrier Pacific Skipper (IMO 8405804) at around 21:20 LT, 15 went into life rafts and were rescued later, 4 went missing, among them captain and chief engineer.
