Napoleon Bonaparte beaten in Marseille

Oct. 29, 2012 at 11:27 by Mikhail Voytenko in Accidents

Passenger ro-ro ferry Napoleon Bonaparte broke moorings on the night of Oct 28 in Marseille, France, due to hurricane-force wind which swept over southern France. Ferry either drifted or was beaten against berth and got a big gash below waterline. Vessel developed starboard list up to 15 degrees and reclined on the berth, reportedly two compartments were flooded. To start pumping out water, salvors have to first, seal the gash. Passenger ro-ro ferry Napoleon Bonaparte IMO 9104835, GRT 44307, built 1996, flag France.
